2026

Overview
FCR Inc. is a car rental platform my team built for COMP 380, the software engineering course at CSUN, between January and May 2026. The site is at fcr-inc.org.
The platform serves three kinds of user:
- Customers search for cars, book them, pay with Stripe and manage their rentals.
- Staff handle pickups and returns.
- Managers get sales reports.
My role
I was the project lead for a team of four, with Andrew Goldman, Jenny Ventura and Roark Wanner-Ruffalo. Along with writing code, I ran the process: Agile sprint planning, the Jira board, our Figma files, the Git workflow and code reviews.
How it's built
The backend is a REST API in Java on Javalin, with Hibernate for persistence and the database on AWS RDS. The API is documented with OpenAPI, so every endpoint can be browsed in Swagger.
The frontend is a separate Next.js app styled with Tailwind, using Zustand for client state. It's deployed separately from the API and talks to it over REST.
The admin dashboard
The admin side is built around a tiling window system inspired by tmux. Instead of switching between separate pages, data views and analytics open as panes that sit side by side, so you can compare them on one screen.
Dev environments
The team's development environments were managed with NixOS. Everyone on the team got the same toolchain from the same configuration, so builds were reproducible from one machine to the next.
